The Yale GLC080VX is built for operations where a standard sit-down rider would be undersized. At 8,000 lbs. rated capacity, it’s common for steel and paper handling, manufacturing floors moving dense material, and rail dock work.
Learn what's under the model number and whether it's the right fit for you. Plus, one thing about this truck that trips up a lot of used-equipment buyers.
You’ll see this truck listed under a couple of different names: GLC080VX, GLC080, and GC080VX all turn up in dealer inventories. Yale’s own North American documentation uses GC080VX, but functionally, they’re the same truck.

If your loads top out around 4,000 – 5,000 lbs, this Yale model is more truck than you need. You’ll pay more upfront and more at the pump for capacity you’re not using.
But, if you routinely work with denser materials — coiled steel, palletized paper stock, machinery components, etc. — this model's increased lift capacity is worth the price.
Something else worth calling out: Yale has a dedicated "Box Car Special" (BCS) variant of the GLC080VX model, specifically designed for narrower clearances and smaller boxcar door configurations. If boxcar or intermodal loading is part of your operation, ask whether the unit is a standard GLC080VX or the BCS version, since they’re not interchangeable for that use case.
Outside of specialty applications like that, the Yale GLC080VX's cushion tires work best on smooth, indoor, and paved lots, not gravel yards or unfinished ground.
Every used forklift purchase benefits from the same used forklift inspections: hour meter, maintenance records, tire wear, attachment compatibility. Those apply here too, but the mast configuration is the most important detail that determines if a unit fits your job — and it’s not something the model number tells you.
This forklift model doesn't ship with a single fixed mast. Yale offers seven different mast configurations for the GLC080VX: two 2-stage options, four 3-stage options, and a specialized boxcar mast option. Two units both listed as “Yale GLC080VX” can differ by nearly 100 inches of max fork height depending on which of the seven mast options they shipped with.
Before you get too far into shopping, get the actual mast type and max fork height off the unit’s data plate or the seller’s spec sheet, and run it against your actual clearance needs.
A few other things worth a look, given this truck’s higher duty cycle: this model weighs 12,650 lbs. empty and up to 20,650 lbs. loaded. That weight puts more stress on the mast, frame, and counterweight mounts over time than a lighter-class truck doing the same number of lift cycles.
A quick visual check of the overhead guard and frame welds for stress cracking is worth the two minutes it takes, especially on a high-hour unit.
In the 7,000 – 8,000-lb cushion-tire LPG class, the GLC080VX competes against similarly sized trucks from Toyota, Hyster, Crown, and CAT. Each shares a similar raw lifting ability. What actually varies is the dealer and parts network coverage in your area. A truck you can’t get serviced quickly isn’t a good deal regardless of price.
Don't forget to factor in mast configurations. The worst mistake you can make is purchasing a forklift that doesn't clear your doors or reach your highest racking requirements.
